As usual, still relying on iOS machine dictionary/translation for every word I don’t recognize. I’ve been taking notes on vocab as I go along too! There’s so much…
I’m not fluent in Chinese but it is my second language and culture. I see translating these stories as a way for me to improve my Chinese. Along with my own understanding of Chinese, I also use the iOS translation/dictionary to read out loud the word for me as sometimes my listening comprehension is better. If that fails I just Google the word or use Baidu (Chinese search engine). Of course, there are probably nuances that I will miss out on for not being a native Chinese speaker.
Technically the main subject of this story is referred to as a ‘support group’ or something like that. I just called it ‘cheerleading’ and relevant phrases because that’s what their outfits and purpose look like to me.
I may have paraphrased a lot of stuff this time, as the dialogue is unnecessarily detailed imo. And I’m trying to make them sound like high school students.
I’ve also decided to try elongating some vowels and letters in words whenever the ~ shows up or when there’s quotation marks in their dialogue, as I imagine these things indicate them saying the sentence with an emphasis or cute drawl. I used a lot more italics this time too, so the tone of sentences gets across. Ritsu and Izumi especially come across as a bit of a drama queen, so I took some creative liberties to make them sound like one.
And finally, this is all a translation of a translation! Sometimes it’s obvious when the Chinese text is trying to translate something from Japanese, but there may be other details or nuances that got lost in translation which would be hard to detect.
