I’m not fluent in Chinese but it is my second language and culture. I see translation as a way for me to improve my Chinese. Along with my own understanding of Chinese, I use machine translation like a dictionary for unfamiliar words or to read out loud the word as sometimes my listening comprehension is better. The machine translation I use is the Apple iOS inbuilt translation and Google Translate. If that fails I just Google the word or use Baidu (Chinese search engine). Of course, there are probably nuances that I will miss out on for not being a native Chinese speaker.

This time I’ve taken a quicker and more relaxed approach to translating dialogue instead of being exact. I’m trying to maintain a balance between the original intent/words and natural sounding dialogue. If you were to compare the Chinese text and what I wrote, some things may be paraphrased or worded in an attempt to sound more concise. I take creative liberties to incorporate the vibes I personally get from each character - and to make it all a bit more fun to read. Chinese can be very descriptive and formal sounding if translated too literally, so I did my best there.

It’s my first time translating most of these characters so did some research or followed the trends of how other translators have translated their mannerisms. I didn’t go that deep though and the way I choose to word things may differ a lot, so I’m sorry if it’s weird!

And of course keep in mind this is basically a translation of a translation! My Japanese is far from good enough to translate anything though.
